Healthy Weight for Life is based on improving weight through a low-calorie diet and healthier lifestyle choices. Program tools include internet-based monitoring and phone support. "Australia faces an obesity epidemic," HCF Medical Director Dr Andrew Cottrill says. "HCF is meeting this challenge by offering members with selected conditions the option to participate in this scientifically proven weight-loss program at no cost." The osteoarthritis program is based on research that shows a 5 per cent weight loss can create a 30 per cent reduction in joint pain, reduce the need for hip replacement surgery, lengthen the time before a replacement is needed and improve rehabilitation outcomes. If you have held your HCF hospital cover for over 12 months, are overweight and have diabetes, heart disease or osteoarthritis, you may be eligible to participate.
