HCF Fit and Well : Summer 2013-14
For most parents, the instinct to protect your children is as natural as breathing. We want them to have the best start in life, to be happy and healthy and eventually realise their hopes and aspirations. It's a good thing we're hardwired to feel this way because childhood is a time of learning, testing boundaries and taking risks. Accidents, big and small, are part of the mix; nearly everybody has a scar from a childhood mishap! As your kids grow up and enter the workforce of course you want them to embark independently on their adult lives, but the reality is they still need support -- you could think of it as training wheels -- especially in the current economic climate. At HCF we've thought about families' needs and designed affordable cover to protect your kids, from early childhood to young adulthood. Young children It's a normal part of growing up: most young children experience their share of bruises and scrapes. Sometimes their injuries can be more serious and this can be a financial burden on young families, along with the stress and anxiety involved with a traumatic accident. An accident can be a strain on your resources, especially if your injured child requires high-level or ongoing care, or needs specialised equipment to help manage their condition. Kids' Accident Cover pays a cash benefit of up to $100,000 if your (under 17 year old) child is accidentally injured or permanently disabled at any time anywhere in Australia, and covers mishaps from stitches and broken bones to major injuries, with a sliding scale of payable sums. The young and the restless Protecting your children at every stage of their lives, from early childhood to their first years as independent adults, is easier and more a ordable than you think. This cash benefit is paid in addition to any other payment you may receive. And to put this within easy reach of Australian families, Kids' Accident Cover costs just 90 cents per child a week. Young adults Young people tend to think they are bulletproof -- don't we know it! In fact, they are often in a high-risk category for all sorts of activities, from driving to snowboarding, as well as just setting out in their careers. It's a stage of life when illness or injury can derail their lives and sometimes force them into moving back home while they recuperate, putting the financial burden back on mum and dad. That's where Income Assist Insurance can really make an enormous difference to the overall outcome for you and your child. This cover pays up to 75 per cent of their average monthly income, at up to $6,000 a month for up to 12 months, if they are unable to work for more than 30 days. It also pays $500 a month for up to three months to people who are confined to bed for more than 30 days. Any Australian resident aged from 18 to 54 is eligible and the cost, which can be as low as a couple of dollars a week, is scaled according to your age, gender and occupation. Whether they are aware of it or not, your kids look to you for guidance and protection. Making sure they're safe while they are dependent on you flows naturally into encouraging them to take responsibility for their own financial independence and lifestyle. HCF Kids' Accident Cover and Income Assist Insurance make the transition a simple and natural one, enabling you to look after your children until they are mature enough to look after themselves. And that's what good parenting is all about.
